At Navelink’s Developer Forum of April, we shared our progress on the ongoing work with implementing the SECOM Hotel, Mikael Olofsson presented possible outlooks on the connectivity infrastructure as we move from VIS Hotel to SECOM Hotel as well as possibly incorporate other connectivity solutions into our infrastructure. We shared insights from our participation in recent meetings hosted by IALA and IEC. Another important highlight from this month’s Developer Forum is that John-Morten Klingsheim from the Norwegian Coastal Administration delivered an illuminating presentation on route exchange and Norway’s plans for leveraging S421 in reference routes.
Recent Progress and Current Endeavors
In the wake of our last Developer Forum, Navelink’s development team has been focused on the ongoing work with the SECOM Hotel implementation into our development (DEV) and testing (TEST) environments, with an estimated completion date during next week.
Moreover, we are conducting in-depth analyses on the long-term implications of EU sanctions on the MCP system and the impact on Navelink. Additionally, we are studying the updated directives from the NIS2 (EU Network and Informations System Directive number 2), evaluating their implications on both Navelink and the MCP system.
Strategic Vision: A Presentation by Mikael Olofsson
Mikael Olofsson, Navelink’s Chief Architect and Head of Concept, provided attendees with a comprehensive overview of Navelink’s strategic timeline for implementing essential infrastructures. From MMS Edge Router to VDES PKI and VDES Transponder, Mikael explained how these initiatives are poised to reshape connectivity in the maritime domain. Attendees gained valuable insights into the evolution of connectivity, from the current landscape with VIS Hotel to the promising future with SECOM Hotel and beyond, where MRR, MMS, VDES, Service Ledger and Trust are possibly added to our connectivity infrastructure.
Insights from IALA and IEC Meetings
Our engagement with industry bodies such as the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) continues to yield valuable insights and opportunities for collaboration. Highlights from recent meetings include progress updates on VTS Service Specifications, advancements in route plan exchange standards (S-421), and ongoing amendments to enhance SECOM functionality. These developments underscore our commitment to staying at the forefront of industry standards.

Navelink extends its deep appreciation to John-Morten Klingsheim from the Norwegian Coastal Administration who delivered an illuminating presentation on route exchange and Norway’s plans for leveraging S421 in reference routes.
